The Work of Continuity

The Work of Continuity is a text-based installation conceived as an evolving, process-driven live poem rather than a fixed or ready-made piece. Written synchronously by the artist in Ukrainian and English, the text develops in parallel across both languages and reflects on past, present, and future conditions of humanity. Through continuous rewriting, editing, and reconfiguration, the work gradually shifts in tone from density, pressure, and anxiety toward lightness, openness, and future perspectives. Writing functions here as an act of care, attentiveness, and transformation.

The work is inherently self-reflective and operates as a living record of the artist's inner state while simultaneously tracing the condition of society, contemporary artistic practice, and human existence. Rather than offering a resolved narrative, the text remains open and responsive, forming a temporal cross-section shaped by change, instability, and lived experience.

Only a fragment of the full text is installed at any given moment. In exhibition form, the text unfolds spatially as a winding line inspired by an ancient symbol of the Trypillia culture, interpreted by researchers and historians as the Eternal River of Time. This motif, which frequently appears in Yuliia's ceramic brick works, signifies continuity, cyclical time, and life understood as an ongoing process.

The Trypillia Cucuteni culture, dated approximately 5400 to 2700 BCE and developed on the territory of present-day Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania, is known for its large proto-urban settlements and richly symbolic ceramic tradition. By embedding this ancient visual language within a contemporary text-based practice, The Work of Continuity connects deep historical time with present experience and its transmission toward future generations.
